Mumbai’s Hanging Gardens to get a makeover
Mumbai’s famous Hanging Gardens will soon get a major makeover. BMC has prepared a masterplan to redevelop the Hanging Gardens and its surrounding areas. The Kamala Nehru Park and the Pheroze Shah Mehta Garden which lie close to the Hanging Gardens will also be re-developed.
The redevelopment plan will include the strengthening of the Old Woman’s shoe and the Asoka Pillar. BMC plans to complete the project in three months. During the first phase the uneven ground in the Kamala Nehru Park will be stabilized with the objective of making the park more accessible to the public. Other beautification measures include the building of a tree house with public seating facilities.
The Hanging Gardens is one of the most popular tourist places in Mumbai. It is a great place to take your kids on a Sunday outing.
BMC plans to add several amenities to it. Once the work becomes complete visitors will be able to see the Chowpatty Beach from the Hanging Gardens. They are also planning to add landscape lighting and a rock garden. In addition, drinking water fountains will be built for children and adults. The re-developed children’s play area will have thematic signboards with nursery rhymes.
