Cheengeri Hill | What To See | How To Reach
Cheengeri Mala or Hill offers panoramic views of Wayanad and that explains why it is emerging as a popular tourist destination in northern Kerala. Wayanad is already a famous tourist place and has major attractions like Pookode lake and Banasura Sagar Dam. But if you are looking to explore a relatively unknown, yet incredibly enchanting tourist place in Wayanad, Cheegeri Mala should be on your list.
Cheengeri Mala is about 2600 feet from sea level. You will get lovely views of Kolagappara and Karappuzha reservoir from the top of Cheengeri. The upcoming Cheengeri Rock Adventure Tourism Centre aims to attract international as well as domestic tourists. A ticket counter, cloak room, security cabin, rest rooms, pantry block, entry pavilion and multi purpose block are some of the facilities built for the adventure tourism centre.
Trekking is a popular activity at Cheengeri. Once travellers reach the base camp, they can rest for a while and start trekking. It is about a 2 km climb to the tops. Tourists are taken in groups and they will be accompanied by a guide. You don’t need exceptionally high levels of stamina and endurance to trek to the top of Cheengeri. It is not an arduous climb and women and children can also easily trek to the top of the hill. The main reason to take this trek is the enchanting views that await you at the top.
Trekking time
Trekking is permitted between 6 am to 12 noon. The entry fee for adults is Rs. 80 and for children it is Rs. 50. Travelers who are not interested in trekking can access the place until 4 pm. The entry fees are Rs. 30 and Rs. 20 for adults and children respectively.
The district tourism promotion council has also arranged tent camps for tourists who would like to spend the night at the top of Cheengeri.

Cheengeri Mala is about 26 kms from Kalpetta.
The nearest international airport is the Kozhikode International Airport (107 km). The nearest railway station is the Kozhikode railway station (95km)
Buses are available from Kozhikode to Kalpetta. Once you reach Kalpetta you can hire a taxi.
