Nelliyampathy Hills in Palakkad reach a height of approximately 467 to 1572 m. The misty peaks are visible from the town of Nenmara itself. Seeing them is a soothing experience especially for weary travellers coming from cities.

In order to reach Nelliyampathy, first you have to reach Nenmara in Palakkad district of Kerala. From Nenmara take the road to Pothundy Dam. It is another lovely destination on the way. After negotiating about 10 hairpin curves, you will finally reach Nelliyampathy. There are view points along the Ghat road to Nelliyampathy and they offer scenic views of Palakkad and its lush paddy fields.

As you go up, you will find tea and coffee plantations owned by various companies. Nelliyampathy is also famous for its orange farms. The highest point is the Palagapandi Estate. It has an old Bungalow built during the British era. it is now a privately owned resort. If you are interested in trekking, you can use the community hall at Kaittatty. Seetharkundu which provides breath-taking views of the valley is near Palagapandy. It is a must-visit during your trip to Nelliyampathy. Manpara is another tourist attraction near Palagapandy. You can reach there by jeep or by trek.

Wildlife

The quaint forests of Nelliyampathy teem with wildlife. There are elephants, leopards, giant squirrels and Indian Gaur. Nelliyampathy is also famous for its population of hornbills which are the state bird of Kerala.

The nearest railway station is the Palakkad station which is about 56 km from Nelliyampathy. The nearest airport is the Coimbatore International Airport which is about 55 km from Palakkad.

Accommodation

There are a few private resorts along the way. There is also a resort at Palagapandi. Nelliyampathy is a long way away from the trappings of development, so accommodation options are rather limited. You should also consider bringing your own food, because there aren’t many restaurants or hotels in or around Nelliyampathy.
