Mumbai Landmarks: Flora Fountain
Hutatma Chowk (Martyr’s Square) in Mumbai is famous for its exquisitely sculpted architectural monument called Flora Fountain. The Fountain is right at the center of one of the busiest areas of Mumbai. It is surrounded by impressive colonial buildings on all four sides. The Flora Fountain has a lovely statue of Flora, the Roman Goddess of Flowers. The statue is made of Portland stone. It has become the quintessential symbol of the city.
The Flora Fountain was built in 1864. The statue of Goddess Flora stands above beautifully carved dolphins, mythical creatures and seashells. The area around the Fountain used to be called Flora Fountain Area. It has now been renamed as Hutatma Chowk. There are numerous commercial and civic establishments around this beautiful monument. One of them is the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).The pedestrian arcades of these commercial buildings are now occupied by hawkers selling everything from used books to smuggled electronic gadgets.

The Flora Fountain is within walking distance of CST and Church Gate Railway Stations. Visit it if you are in or around Mumbai.
