Sacred temple tanks of Hampi
Almost every temple in Hampi has sacred water tanks called pushkaranis attached to it. Water required for performing temple rituals used to be taken from these tanks. Because of this reason they are considered sacred.
Most of these water tanks are now in a ruined state. Nonetheless, they are still considered as architectural marvels.
The water tank associated with the Virupaksha Temple is functional. This tank is located outside the river facing tower of the temple. It is called the Manmatha Tank.
There are several water tanks in the Royal Center Area. They are not associated with any temples. The most important among them is the Stepped Tank inside the Royal Enclosure. Its geometrical shape has always fascinated tourists.
Appreciating the time and energy you put into your site and in depth information you provide. Hampi has always fascinated me.
