Manniyampathur Saraswathi Temple | Temples of Kerala
The Saraswati Temple at Manniyampathur is one of the oldest temples in Palakkad district. It is also famous as the only Saraswathi Temple in the Malabar region of Kerala.
Since this is a Saraswati Temple, children can have their Vidyarambam (initiation into the world of letters) ceremony performed here on any day. Even so, Vijayadashami is believed to be the most auspicious day for Vidyarambam.
History
There are references to Manniyampathur Saraswathi Temple in several historical documents. The temple has a long and glorious history of celebrating Navaratri with great fervor. More than hundred years ago, a massive fire had gutted all parts of the temple except for the Sanctum Sanctorum. Following this fire, the temple remained forgotten for several decades. It was restored to its former glory a few years ago as a result of the relentless efforts made by devotees. Today this temple attracts a large number of devotees every day.
Navratri is the biggest festival here. The temple organizes special pujas during Navaratri to win the blessings of the goddess. Saraswata Sukta Pushpanjali is the main offering here.
