Athirappally and Vazhachal Waterfalls
The majestic and picturesque waterfalls at Athirapally and Vazhachal are just five kilometers apart.
Located on the edges of the Sholayar forest ranges, the twin falls are a major tourist attraction in the state. The waterfalls at Athirapally plummet from a height of 80 feet and join the Chalakudy River. The cool spray that springs from the falls covers a large area and adds to the beauty of the Athirappally. The waterfalls at Vazhachal are as majestic as the falls at Athirappally. Vazhachal waterfalls also are part of the Chalakudy River.

Thrissur railways station is about 63 kms from Athirappally. The nearest railway station is the one at Chalakkudy. It is about 35 kms from Athirappally. The nearest airport is the Cochin International Airport.

A small dam is being constructed across the Chalakudy river at Thumboormuzhi with the objective of diverting water for irrigation.
Charpa Falls
The Charpa Falls is close to the Athirappally waterfalls. While it is not as famous as the other two waterfalls in the Chalakkudy river, it is just as beautiful. Monsoon months are the best time to enjoy the beauty of Charpa Falls.

The Hydel Tourism Project at Poringalkuthu is a major hit with visitors. From here, tourists will get a nice view of the dam. There are several other attractions as well.
